Light at the end of the tunnel?

At the moment, however there are two developments that are giving way for hope. The first is concerns the situation in Sudan: after a one yearlong cease-fire, the warring parties of southern and northern Sudan signed a treaty for peace. This will allow for the opening up of the oil resources in southern Sudan, thereby diminishing Western interests in Sudan. The Sudanese desire to peacefully extract and sell their oil coincides with the needs of Western nations. This result may be a positive step to unite the LRA and the Museveni government at the negotiating table.

Another exciting development, concerns the International Criminal Court's increasing interest in the atrocities committed by the LRA and the Ugandan government in the Acholi region. The challenge to the crimes committed in northern Uganda will be the first case to be heard at the court in The Hague. The court's action might increase the chances of peace talks between the LRA and the Museveni government.
