Kilama, age 13, another of Grace's charges, suffers from guilt and shame. 12 months after his abduction he was able to escape but only after his parents were killed. He is haunted by the memory of a small boy, who watched as Kilama stabbed the boy's mother to death. He prays day and night for forgiveness, but it doesn't rid him of his constant nightmares. The only absolution for him is a traditional ritual. Grace tries to convince Kilama`s grandparents to take him in. The grandmother agrees to organise the ritual that is supposed to save him from his bad dreams. But after the ritual, she wants nothing to do with him – she is afraid of Kilama. The orphan is pushed away to distant relatives, outside of town, where he will only be able to stay during the day. Feeling unloved and ridiculed Kilama has chosen to live away from his relatives. However, he constantly fears being abducted again. He lives in constant danger, every night he walks into the center of a nearby city. He sleeps on the streets with thousands of other children.
“The house is too unsafe, I can constantly feel that the rebels are very close ... I want to be able to sleep safely again.” Kilama, aged 13

After the rituals, Kilama finally frees himself of his nightmares. He finds a new home in an orphanage. Still, after several interventions from Grace he declined to go back to his relatives. He prefers to stay at the orphanage. He smiles for the first time when a teacher welcomes him warmly and shows him a place to sleep on the floor.
